Why Two Charts? The Inner & the Outer
July 2026 · Don Elconin
Most astrology works from a single chart. My approach is unique in using two — an Inner Chart and an Outer Chart — because a single life is lived in two worlds at once: the world within us, and the world around us.
The Inner Chart is the "I Will" chart. It describes the inner wiring — how the urges and energies are first put together and experienced, before familial or societal shaping. It is one's natural orientation, the alignment of the planets as they were first set up to work.
The Outer Chart is the "I Must" chart. It describes the life lived in the world — the interaction with that world, what it offers and expects, and the options and opportunities available as one moves forward.
One chart for the wiring we are born with; one for the life we are asked to live.
The real depth appears in the comparison. Finding an aspect figure that is active in only one of the two charts — present in the inner world but not the outer, or the reverse — adds a layer of understanding that a single chart could never show. Read together, the two charts create the possibility for a deeper and more holistic result.

Western tropicalist astrologer with Huber overtones and some Rudhyar influence tossed in. Practical, pragmatic and innovative approaches that focus on personal growth and self-development, including the use of triangular and quadrangular figures created by geometric relationships between planets.
