Sun, Moon & Saturn as the Ego Planets

Another example is the Pluto in Anne Frank’s Inner Chart. I consider the semi-sextile aspects as being active so that Pluto is not unaspected in my work. I view Pluto as part of an EYE figure, which is part of a Magic Cap Figure in her Inner Chart. As the apex of the EYE, Pluto is the basic theme and focal point for all the information that is being gtathered by the EYE rim planets Sun/Mercury and Mars. I find this a much better description of what was going on in that 12th house attic she was living in than to try to explain it by describing the Pluto as unaspected. Here is that chart:
In my astrology, ever since initially learning to see the incorporation of the ego this way through Bruno Huber’s astrology, the three primary “ego” planets are the Sun, Moon and Saturn. I use the color red for these planets to emphasize their importance. Generally speaking, the Sun offers self-awareness through the Mind, the Moon through the Emotions, and Saturn through the Body. Each individual finds their own balance between these three focal ego approaches but all should be active. Life also provides situations that will show when one or more are being neglected, if one is able to see this.
The id, ego, and superego are three components of the human psyche in Freudian psychology. The id represents primitive, unconscious desires and instinctual urges. It seeks immediate gratification of desires. The superego represents internalized moral standards and societal norms. It is the moral compass, incorporating internalized societal rules and values. It strives for perfection and judges actions as good or bad. The ego acts as a mediator, balancing the id's demands with the superego's restrictions and the demands of external reality. It is the rational decision-making component of the personality, seeking to find realistic and socially acceptable ways to satisfy the id’s desires.
There is not a direct correlation between the id, ego and superego with the Sun, Moon and Saturn. Using the Sun, Moon and Saturn as the ego planets in my system is a way to separate the ego into the conscious, unconscious and structural components that combine to define it.
The Sun is the central shining essence, the focal point of the conscious self or Will in the chart. The Sun is who we are, our Self Awareness, our warmth, truly the central source of meaning. It is our WILL. It is our creative life force. It is also the mental side of the ego. The Sun’s purpose is to consciously determine how we choose to define ourselves, using our mental functions to do so. It most closely resembles the Freudian ego.
The Moon is the reflective, emotional sense of Self, our Reigning Need, our inner and subjective reality. By “reigning need” I mean that emotions tend to rule and, therefore, the needs of the Moon become dominant. The Moon is our Soul. This is where and in what form we find the reigning need in the chart. It is the emotional side of the ego. This part of the ego is initially unconscious in form, like the id. The hope here is to bring at least a portion of this unconscious functioning into conscious awareness.
Saturn is our structural form, the physical manifestation or embodiment, so to speak. It also defines our limitations, how we approach the structure of our life. Remember, Saturn is located at the far edge of our visual solar system, representing the limit of our physical vision of the system. It defines our body, our physical needs. It also defines the practicalities of life that demand our attention, how we need to approach things with responsibility. And, like the superego, Saturn involves incorporating the morality principle into our lives. Saturn's focus on our structural needs is of such primary importance that it can create overcompensation in the life areas defined by its placement in the chart.

You can see that Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter are in a separate section. The Hubers described them as tool planets. They initially work instinctively, somewhat impulsively. We can only use them consciously, utilizing their full potential value, once we have developed self-awareness and self-understanding. Another way to look at this is to see whether the ego planets are in balance and functioning consciously or not. Are we being controlled by our emotions (Moon), our need to control or dominate situations (Sun), or simply being controlled by our need for security, or our greed and/or find ourselves manipulating instead of utilizing (Saturn)?
Working with the planets in the aspect figures will involve specific focus on the ego planets. Central to the concept of personal development is the need to develop the personality and the understanding and awareness of self which can only come with proper integration and balanced development of the ego. With the Sun this involves coming to understand one’s mental awareness of Self, and to be able to express this strongly, but wisely. This allows for the true personal Will to come forth. It does not involve controlling others or exhibiting a persona that is a mirror of what works in lieu of who we are. With the Moon we have to come to an awareness of what is driving us in emotional unconscious ways. We have to overcome whatever social influences might have affected us, causing emotional blockage, so to be able to love ourselves, be true to ourselves emotionally, and to be able to love and respect people and things in ways that truly represent our emotional selves. With Saturn this involves learning our true physical needs, the needs of our body, how we need to physically structure our body and life, learning how to function using what we have created as our morality principles, and to attend to the practical responsibilities that will create good, lasting structure to our bodies, lives and relationships.
We will be told, if we can listen, when we are not in balance. Are we too wrapped up in our needs for security, or not attentive to the needs of our physical self, or find ourselves driven by greed? Are we overrun by our emotions? Are we only able to see ourselves as manifesting positively by controlling others, being manipulative in lieu of utilizing or compromising, not willing to simply accept others into our lives as they are?
Not only will the development of the ego planets open doors to personal growth and development directly, they will also open doors to utilization of the sub-conscious tool planets to conscious use by the individual, and allow for the potential utilization of the super-conscious transpersonal planets in lieu of their causing havoc upon us. Mercury can be used not just to communicate what we want and need or to seek info that helps put us into a better position. It can provide deductive reasoning in using information to better work with others. Venus can be used to not just to provide enjoyment to and from people or things, but to also utilize them to reach higher plateaus of sharing or utilizing. Mars energy can be used to not just inflate your sense of self, but to also further your personal goals as part of and in relation to others. Jupiter can be used not just to visualize a bigger you, but also to visualize a better way to evaluate or perceive a collective system that you may be working on. Rather than Uranus being a disruptive change agent, possibly due to an unconscious action by you, you can use your unique view of something to create a new collective approach to resolution of a problem. Rather than Neptune causing you to deceive yourself for others, it can bring the vision of how to find a new avenue to come closer to your spiritual self or to actually reach for your ideals. Rather than Pluto causing the breakdown or destruction of something important in your life, possibly due to your attempt to control something, you can find linkage to the power needed to make changes within a part of your life or within your work in the collective world. Basically, attempting to control the transpersonal planets while still developing the self-awareness needed to properly work with the ego planets can backfire. Worst case scenarios involve those who become radical fanatics, fraudsters and tyrants or dictators.

Unaspected planets can function either as strong talents or excessive, overcompensatory habits: For example, unaspected Mercury could suggest someone whose emphasis on thoughts or speech is pronounced, like the writer Norman Vincent Peale, who wrote “The Power of Positive Thinking.” However, it could also suggest someone that talks incessantly out of nervous habit.

Unaspected Moon: Possible Emotional Disconnection
Natal Moon with no major aspects tends to magnify the needs represented by Moon’s sign. A good example is Steve Jobs, who had unaspected Moon in Aries (“the need to be Number One”). Unaspected planets can be hard to tame. Integrating the unaspected planet into our psyche may feel like trying to have a tall Westerner blend in with a crowd of Japanese people – it can’t help but stand out.
Rather than trying to make unaspected planet conform to a social norm, you may want to find a challenging outlet for its energy – be it writing a book, learning a foreign language, forming a nonprofit organization, or practicing martial arts. With positive direction, unaspected planets can become your strongest asset.

The other line of thought is the interpretation preferred by noted astrologer Noel Tyl, which is the preferred interpretation these days. Being unaspected can make the planet a more powerful force, as it screams for attention among all of the other planetary aspects. The individual might not realize its expression in their behavior, but others recognize it unmistakably. Unaspected planets can function as strong talents. They can also express as excessive, over-compensatory habits.
Transits will make aspects to the unaspected planet at times, which can excite and stimulate it into action. The individual can have a hard time controlling the unaspected planet’s traits at those times.
Unaspected Sun
With an unaspected Sun in the natal chart, both its strengths and challenges can increase. The person’s charisma is strengthened and this can facilitate success. The Sun’s negative features can also prevail. These include social maladjustment, paralyzed willpower, unawareness of one’s rude behavior, self-centeredness, egoism, and vanity.

With an unaspected Mercury in the natal chart, the individual’s nature can be quick, unstable, and changeable. The intellectualism and the nervousness that Mercury naturally bestows might blow up out of proportion. What can be beneficial about an unaspected Mercury is less inclination to become scattered and distracted, compared with a heavily-aspected Mercury.

Venus is seldom unaspected in a chart since it’s never very far from the Sun and Mercury. With an unaspected Venus in the natal chart, there can be alternating outbursts of emotions and heightened material and sensual desires. Venus’ charm and kindness are less pronounced than with a well-aspected Venus.
Unaspected Mars
With an unaspected Mars in the natal chart, the effects are without doubt the most noticeable among the ten unaspected planets. Mars’ very nature is synonymous with action, aggression, and anger. Sexuality, too. Unaspected Mars sometimes activates the aggressive and quick-tempered side of the individual’s nature. When Mars is unaspected, there is always a concrete impact.
