Symbols

Astrology as a Symbolic Language

July 2026 · Don Elconin

I like to call astrology the "Language of Life." It is a language made up of symbols, placed upon a mandala — the circle of the chart — where each symbol carries deep, interlocking meanings.

Like any language, it has a vocabulary and a grammar. The planets are the actors, the basic energies. The signs color how those energies express. The houses are the arenas of life where they play out. And the aspects — the lines drawn between planets — are the sentences, describing how the energies speak to one another.

A language made of symbols, placed on a mandala — each one carrying a world of meaning.

To learn astrology is to learn to read that language: to see not isolated symbols, but the way they interweave to describe a unique individual life. Once the alphabet becomes familiar, the chart begins to speak — and what it says is remarkably useful, both on the inner and the worldly level.
